George Randall enlisted, as a private, in the Fourth Pennsylvania
Volunteer Infantry in the fall of 1861 and in December was appointed,
on approval of Congress (37th Congress), as a 2nd lieutenant in the
Fourth Infantry Regiment (to date from October 24th, 1861).  Randall
participated in the siege of Yorktown and the battles of Malvern Hill,
Gains' Mill, and 2nd Bull Run (where he was in command of Company
C, 4th U.S.). While commanding Company C, George Randall also
participated in the battles of Antietam and Fredericksburg.

He saw further field duty during the battles of Chancellorsville and
Gettysburg. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant in November of 1862
and was brevet captain for gallant and meritorius services during the
battle of Antietam. He was engaged in the Battle of the Wilderness
and later served as Aide-de-Camp to General James Ledlie, First
Brigade ,First Division, Ninth Army Corps. He particpated in the
battles of Spottsylvania, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, and
Petersburg. In July of 1864 he was in command (as a Major) of the
Fourteenth New York Heavy Artillery during the Mine Explosion. He
was promoted to lieutenant colonel, 14th New York Heavy Artillery
and was engaged in the defense of Fort Steadman. He was brevet
colonel of Volunteers for gallant and meritorious conduct during the
defense of Fort Steadman.

He was brevet major, United States Army in April of 1865 and was promoted to captain and assigned to the Fourth
Infantry Regiment in September of 1865. He served as Indian Agent on the Upper Missouri in 1869 and 1870 and was
transfered to the Twentythird Infantry in January of 1871. Ultimately promoted to General, George Randall, commanded
the Department of Luzon, in the Philippines from 1903 to 1905. He retired from military service in October of 1905.
